stop the lectures being boring . . . .

‘Stop the lectures being boring, make a 360 degree projection where you can touch the image on the screen and it opens up and opens up. This is my approach to the future, open things, open them up.’

never stop learning!

Thankyou Paul for your response to this cup.
I appreciated it as I was thinking that Gilmore College would have an interesting history, and an exciting future planned.

To whom it may concern,
I found the cup at the gates of Gilmore College for Girls…

Gilmore College is located in the heart of Footscray, is the only remaining 'all girls' government school in the Western Region. The school was originally founded in 1925 as a Footscray School of Domestic Arts in response to community demand. In order to obtain experience in actual household arrangement and duties, two members of the teaching staff lived in the flat provided in the school building.
The girls spend half their time in library completing their academic studies (primary school level) and the other half in practical domestic arts activities. Students who completed the course were awarded the merit certificate - similar to certificates given to student who completed primary school. It should be noted, back then girls only completed primary school and government secondary schools was only for boys.

Later in 1939 it transformed to Footscray Girls Secondary School and by 1966 the school became Footscray Girls’ High School. Continuing to reflect the values of the community, the school was an educational showpiece, outdoing private schools and attracting scholars from middle class families. From the mid 60s, Footscray was characterized by the successive waves of immigration experienced by Melbourne. First with Greek, Italian and former Yugoslavian migrants, then changing during the 80s as European migrants were replaced by Vietnamese and East African immigrants. Consequently in 1990s the school changed its name and became Gilmore College for Girls.

Recently the Victorian Government has committed $15 million for the first stage of the Footscray Learning Precinct. Gilmore College for Girls is involved in this exciting new initiative. The ambitious project will provide a long-term vision for world-class education in the inner west.

Regards Paul Nucci

Viktor's cup - Education is a tool

Education is a tool to prepare you for the adult life that includes things as learning stuff like math and science but also things as learning to be independent. Schools nowadays focus too much on the math and science stuff and not enough on the rest, but that’s just my opinion –Viktor  from Denmark

without school . . . .

Without school, we wouldn’t have any educated people who could keep our system running.
No doctors no scientists, no lawyer.

Its in the laneway that leads to Madden Square which is an extraordinary place because there are aerosol murals with slogans about community issues. This one behind the cup is shown in more below.

oh yes and these trees with knitted trunk warmers are by: the Knit into Action Project and are about saying NO to Sexual violence in our community.

It was installed in the Footscray Mall last December by WestCASA .
It is a silent and  peaceful  protest of knitting  to raise awareness of the overwhelming prevalence of sexual assault and violence in our community.
WestCASA  engaged Staff, Clients, a textile class from Gilmore Secondary Girls College Footscray, women attending Community Corrections and general community members in the knitting of over 600 squares.
